Overview The conference room pilot — CRP — is the most powerful tool in the Oracle implementation methodology. Done well, it is the moment when the client sees their business processes running in the configured system for the first time, validates that the design decisions made in the workshops were correct, and produces the issue list that drives design completion before the system integration test. Done badly, it is a demonstration by the consultant in front of passive business users who nod along, discover the gaps at UAT, and blame the system. This course teaches CRP facilitation as a structured discipline: how to design CRP scenarios that test the design decisions rather than demonstrate working functionality, how to prepare business participants so they can validate actively rather than observe passively, how to facilitate the sessions in a way that surfaces issues in real time, and how to capture and triage the output in a way that drives action rather than creating a list of complaints. Two sessions, six hours — covering the full CRP lifecycle from design through to output triage. CRP design — scenarios, scripts, and participant preparation (3 hours) We begin with what a CRP is for: validating the design, not demonstrating the system. The distinction matters — a demonstration has a known outcome; a validation is looking for the unknown. We work through CRP scenario design: how to identify the scenarios that test the most important design decisions, how to sequence them to reflect an end-to-end business flow rather than a module-by-module walkthrough, and how to write a scenario script that gives business participants a realistic business context rather than a step-by-step click guide. We cover the data requirements for CRP: what data needs to be loaded before the session, how to design the data set so that it reflects realistic business complexity (multiple currencies, approval hierarchies, exception cases), and how to manage the data preparation workstream. We end with participant preparation: the briefing that business participants need before a CRP, what they are being asked to validate, and how to set expectations correctly so the session produces useful output rather than a list of 'this is different from what we used to do'. Facilitation technique, issue capture, and output triage (3 hours) The second session covers the CRP execution side. We work through facilitation technique for CRP: how to open the session, how to manage the balance between demonstration and exploration, how to draw out issues from participants who are uncertain whether what they are seeing is correct, and how to handle the common facilitation challenges — the participant who wants to redesign the entire process, the consultant who defaults to demonstration mode, and the issue that turns out to be a training gap rather than a design problem. We cover real-time issue capture: how to log issues in the session so they are actionable rather than vague, the information each issue log entry needs, and how to distinguish between a design issue (the configuration does not match the requirement), a data issue (the test data does not represent the real scenario), and a scope issue (the requirement was never in scope). We end with output triage: the CRP debrief process, how to prioritise the issue list, how to assign ownership, and how to use the CRP output to drive the build-phase completion tasks.
