The cutover is execution — and unlike the rest of the project, there is no opportunity to pause, reconsider, and try again on Monday. If the cutover plan is wrong, if the sequence is off, if a dependency was missed, the business cannot operate and the project team has a very small window to recover before someone calls the implementation a failure. This course covers cutover planning as a structured discipline — not as a checklist you produce in the final week, but as a plan you start building at the beginning of the test phase and refine through every mock migration and system test. We work through the elements of a cutover plan that experienced project leads produce and inexperienced ones omit: the technical cutover sequence, the data loading activities and their dependencies, the business validation checkpoints, the go/no-go decision framework, and the hypercare structure for the first week in production. We start with what a cutover plan actually contains: the technical sequence (system freeze, final data extract, environment refresh, data load, technical validation), the functional sequence (open period loading, balance validation, functional smoke testing), and the business sequence (user communication, parallel running decisions, first transactions). We work through the go/no-go framework — the readiness criteria that must be met before the business is committed to going live — and what happens when a criterion is not met. We then cover the hypercare structure: how to organise the support function for the first week in production when issue volumes are highest and the team is most tired. We end with a cutover case study: a go-live weekend with three problems — one technical, one data, one functional — and participants work through the decision sequence.
