Overview Oracle APEX — Application Express — is Oracle's low-code development platform, and it is the primary tool for building bespoke extensions to Oracle Fusion Cloud. When a client needs a custom approval workflow, a supplier portal, a project dashboard, or a data entry form that Fusion's standard screens do not provide, APEX is typically the right answer: it runs on Oracle's infrastructure, integrates natively with Fusion's REST APIs, and deploys with the same security model as the Fusion applications themselves. This course teaches Oracle APEX for Fusion consultants who are not developers by background. We focus on the specific skills needed to build practical Fusion extensions: how to connect an APEX application to Oracle Fusion via REST, how to authenticate correctly using OAuth 2.0, how to build pages that read from and write to Fusion, and how to design applications that feel like a natural extension of the Fusion environment rather than a separate system bolted on the side. We build three working applications during the course: a supplier invoice status portal that lets suppliers check their invoice status without logging into Fusion, a project cost dashboard that surfaces Oracle Projects data in a management-friendly format, and a simple workflow application that routes and approves custom requests using APEX's built-in workflow engine. All three are practical, deployable starting points — not toy examples. APEX fundamentals — workspaces, applications, pages, and regions (3 hours) We begin with Oracle APEX architecture: what APEX is, how it runs, and how Oracle APEX on Autonomous Database (the Fusion-adjacent deployment) differs from on-premise APEX. We set up a working APEX workspace and create our first application. We cover the APEX page model: how pages, regions, items, and buttons work together, what the page rendering and page processing sequences do, and how APEX's declarative approach differs from writing code. We build the first working page: a Fusion employee lookup that calls the Oracle Fusion HCM REST API, parses the JSON response, and displays employee information in a clean APEX page. No complex code — the focus is understanding the pattern. REST API integration — authentication, web source modules, and data display (3 hours) This is the core technical session. We cover Oracle Fusion's REST API framework: how to find the API you need in the Fusion REST API documentation, how to understand the request and response structure, and how to test APIs using a REST client before building them into APEX. We then cover authentication: how to set up an OAuth 2.0 client credential in Oracle Fusion, how to configure the APEX web credential, and how to call authenticated Fusion REST APIs from APEX without exposing credentials. We build two REST-connected pages: a supplier invoice status list that calls the AP Invoices REST API, and a project expenditure summary that calls the Oracle Projects REST API. We cover error handling: what to show the user when the REST call fails and how to log integration errors for debugging. Forms, validation, and writing back to Oracle Fusion (3 hours) Reading data from Fusion is one pattern. Writing back — creating records, updating values, triggering business events — is more powerful and more complex. This session covers Oracle Fusion REST APIs for write operations: POST for create, PATCH for update, and the approval workflow REST endpoints that can trigger Fusion business events. We build a simple expense claim submission form in APEX that creates an expense report in Oracle Fusion Expenses via REST. We cover form validation: how to validate user input in APEX before the REST call is made, how to handle Fusion's own validation errors (400 responses) gracefully, and how to show meaningful error messages. We end with APEX's built-in authorisation framework: how to restrict pages to authenticated users and how to map Oracle Fusion roles to APEX application access. Building the three working applications and deployment patterns (3 hours) The final session assembles everything into three complete, deployable applications. The supplier portal: a login-free status portal where suppliers enter their vendor number to see their open and recently paid invoices, with a query interface and a status colour-coding system. The project cost dashboard: a management dashboard showing project budget vs actual by task, with a cost trend chart and a drill-down to expenditure detail. The custom approval workflow: a simple request-and-approve application using APEX's approval component, demonstrating how APEX workflow can supplement Fusion's built-in approval flows for custom business processes. For each application, we cover the deployment pattern: how to export, import, and configure the application in a production APEX workspace connected to a live Fusion environment.
