OTBI Reports for Business Users

About this course

Build, schedule, and share Oracle reports without a BI developer. Build, customise, and schedule Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence reports in Oracle Fusion — without SQL or a BI developer. For finance and operations business users. 6 hrs · 2 sessions. Overview Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence — OTBI — is Oracle Fusion's built-in reporting tool. It sits directly on the live transaction data and gives business users the ability to build reports that answer real questions without waiting for IT, without writing SQL, and without exporting to Excel. Used well, it eliminates weeks of manual reporting work per month. This course teaches OTBI from a business user's perspective: how to navigate the subject areas, how to build an analysis from scratch, how to add filters and prompts, how to create dashboards that combine multiple reports, and how to schedule reports to arrive in your inbox. We focus on Finance subject areas — GL, AP, AR, and project accounting — with additional coverage of SCM and HCM reporting. We deliberately do not teach OTBI as a technical tool. No data modelling, no expression language, no ETL configuration. The target participant is a finance controller, operations manager, or senior analyst who needs to produce their own management information in Fusion — accurately, consistently, and without depending on anyone else. Learning outcomes • Navigate OTBI subject areas and identify which contains the data for any given business question • Build a complete OTBI analysis from scratch including column selection, filters, prompts, and conditional formatting • Create a management dashboard combining multiple analyses with shared prompts and consistent formatting • Schedule a report to run automatically and distribute results by email in the required format • Add calculated columns to derive ratios, variances, and totals without technical assistance • Report on AP aging, AR outstanding, GL account balances, and cost centre spend directly from Fusion Prerequisites • Comfort navigating Oracle Fusion — any module • Basic understanding of what data you want to report on (GL, AP, AR, inventory, HR) • No SQL or technical background required Modules 1. Building your first OTBI analysis — subject areas, columns, filters, and views (3 hours) OTBI subject areas and how they connect to the Oracle Fusion data model. Building three analyses from scratch: GL account balances by cost centre and period, AP invoice aging by supplier and due date, AR outstanding balance by customer and invoice date. Adding filters to limit data, prompts to make the report interactive, and conditional formatting to highlight exceptions. Analysis views — table, pivot, graph, and gauge — and when to use each. Topics: OTBI subject areas; Column selection and labelling; Filter and prompt design; Conditional formatting; Analysis views: table, pivot, graph; Saving and sharing an analysis 2. Dashboards, scheduling, and advanced techniques (3 hours) Building a finance dashboard combining four analyses — P&L summary, AP aging, AR aging, cash balance — with cross-report filters. Dashboard prompts, section layouts, and refresh control. Scheduling: setting up a report to run automatically and email results as Excel, PDF, or data file. Three advanced techniques: calculated columns, percentage and ranking functions, and reporting across multiple subject areas using a common linking dimension. Topics: Dashboard design and layout; Cross-report dashboard prompts; Email scheduling and formats; Calculated columns; Percentage and ranking; Multi-subject-area reporting Delivery Most effective when delivered with access to a real or representative Fusion environment so participants build on actual data. If the team has been live for a few months, we build reports during the session that they take home and use immediately. Available virtually or on-site.
