Payroll Review for Managers
HRDC Claimable
About this course
Understanding payroll outputs, deductions, and the approval process.
Payroll output review for line managers and HR managers — understanding payslips, approving payroll runs, identifying exceptions, and resolving the most common payroll queries. 3 hrs · 1 session.
Overview
Managers in organisations running Oracle Fusion Payroll are often asked to review payroll output, approve payroll runs for their teams, and answer employee questions about their pay. Most are not payroll specialists — they need to understand enough to review effectively, spot exceptions that need investigation, and know when to escalate.
We cover how to read an Oracle Fusion payroll output report: what the gross-to-net calculation shows, what each deduction element represents, how to understand Mauritius-specific elements (PAYE, NPF, NSF) or the relevant statutory deductions for the organisation's jurisdiction, and how to identify an employee whose payslip looks wrong. We cover the manager approval step in the payroll run — what approvers see, what they are signing off, and the consequences of approving a payroll run with an error in it.
One session, three hours — a payroll literacy course for managers, not a payroll specialist training. By the end, participants can read a payslip, review a payroll run, and have an informed conversation with the payroll team about a discrepancy.
Learning outcomes
• Read and interpret an Oracle Fusion payslip — earnings elements, statutory deductions, voluntary deductions, and net pay
• Review a payroll run output report and identify employees whose payslips show potential exceptions
• Complete the payroll manager approval task in Oracle Fusion workflow and understand what it commits the business to
• Identify the most common payroll discrepancy patterns — zero net pay, missing starters, PAYE anomalies — and know when to escalate
• Submit a payroll query to the payroll team with the information needed for efficient investigation and resolution
Prerequisites
• No prior Oracle experience required
• Basic understanding of employment compensation — gross pay, deductions, net pay

Identifying common payroll exceptions: zero net pay, unusually high or low PAYE, new starter not included, leaver incorrectly included.
