Overview
Project-driven supply chain is Oracle Fusion's answer to a specific and common business problem: organisations that do not buy, hold, or consume materials operationally — they buy, hold, and consume them against specific projects. A construction company purchasing steel for Building A does not want that cost pooled with general inventory — it wants it tracked against the project from the moment the purchase order is raised.
This course teaches the complete Oracle Fusion project-driven supply chain — from the project-driven requisition, through project-specific receiving, project inventory, and all the way to the cost distribution that flows supply chain costs into Oracle Fusion Projects. We cover integration configuration requirements on both the SCM side and the Projects side, the accounting entries connecting inventory to project costing, and reporting structures giving project managers visibility into their committed and actual supply chain costs.
This is an advanced course requiring working knowledge of both Oracle Fusion Projects and SCM. It is the course that completes the picture for consultants who know both modules independently and need to understand how they connect. Particularly relevant for EPC contractors, government capital project organisations, oil and gas operators, and professional services firms across Africa.
Learning outcomes
• Configure the end-to-end Oracle Fusion project-driven procurement flow from project requisition through to project cost distribution
• Set up project inventory and reconcile the inventory balance to project expenditure
• Explain the integration architecture between Oracle Fusion SCM, Projects, and Finance including the cost collection process and accounting event chain
• Configure project-driven manufacturing for Make-to-Project and Engineer-to-Order scenarios
• Produce management reports showing committed, received, and expensed costs in a single project view
• Diagnose integration failures between SCM and Projects and apply the correct correction and reprocessing procedure
Prerequisites
• Completion of Oracle Fusion Projects: Costing & Billing, or equivalent Oracle Projects configuration experience
• Completion of SCM Configuration: Items, Inventory Orgs & Costing, or equivalent SCM configuration experience
• Working knowledge of Oracle Fusion Finance — ledgers, legal entities, and subledger accounting
Modules
1. Project-driven requisitions and purchase orders (3 hours)
The project-driven procurement flow: how a project task drives a purchase requisition, how the requisition carries project attributes (project, task, expenditure type, expenditure organisation) through to the purchase order, and how project attributes are validated against the project structure. Procurement configuration for project-driven purchasing: expenditure types, project cost account derivation in Payables, and the Procurement to Projects accounting flow. Full procure-to-pay cycle for a capital project — tracing accounting at every step.

2. Project inventory — project-specific stock and issues (3 hours)
How to receive materials into a project-specific sub-inventory, issue from project inventory to a project task, and what happens to inventory valuation and project cost when materials move between projects or are returned to general inventory. Accounting differences between project inventory (materials held but owned by a project) and direct project costs (materials expensed immediately on receipt). Configuration requirements: project-enabled inventory organisations, project cost groups, and project inventory account derivation.

3. Cost collection from SCM to Projects — integration architecture (3 hours)
How SCM transactions generate project cost transactions and how costs are distributed to the GL. Interface tables, the cost collection process, and accounting events connecting inventory subledger to project costing subledger to GL. The Purchased Item Cost Transfer: moving costs from Oracle Cost Management into Project Costing after receipt. Error handling: identifying collection failures, correcting, and reprocessing. Reconciliation exercise: confirming SCM cost reports match project expenditure reports match the GL trial balance.

4. Project-driven manufacturing, reporting, and design patterns (3 hours)
Project-driven manufacturing: work orders linked to project tasks, how labour, material, and overhead costs flow into Oracle Projects, and the configuration for project manufacturing. Make-to-Project and Engineer-to-Order patterns common in capital project organisations. Management reporting: committed costs (open POs), received costs, and project expenditure in a single view. Design patterns for four African project-driven supply chain scenarios: infrastructure construction, oil and gas, professional services, and government capital budget execution.

Important
This module requires correct configuration in four places simultaneously Project-driven supply chain spans Oracle Fusion Projects, Procurement, Inventory, and Finance. Each module has its own configuration requirements, and a gap in any one produces a break in the flow. In our experience, most project-driven supply chain implementations have at least one integration gap that only surfaces when a real project transaction is run end-to-end. This course is designed to prevent that.
