Build SuiteAnalytics workbooks, pivot tables, charts, and operational dashboards in NetSuite — the advanced reporting layer beyond saved searches and standard reports. 9 hrs · 3 sessions · Intermediate. Overview SuiteAnalytics is NetSuite's built-in analytics layer — a significant step beyond saved searches and standard reports. Workbooks allow users to pivot, group, chart, and combine data from multiple record types in a single analysis view, without exporting to Excel. Most NetSuite users are unaware it exists; most who know it exists have never been shown how to use it. This course teaches SuiteAnalytics from the ground up — how to build a workbook, add data sets, create pivot tables, add charts, and publish the result as a dashboard portlet that updates in real time. By the end of three sessions every participant has built at least five working workbooks covering Finance, CRM, and operational data. SuiteAnalytics workbooks — datasets, pivots & charts (3 hours) What SuiteAnalytics is and how it differs from saved searches and standard reports: the workbook as an interactive analysis tool rather than a static report. The workbook builder: creating a new workbook, selecting the primary dataset (transactions, customers, employees, projects), adding fields, and setting the workbook name. Dataset configuration: adding fields from the primary record and from joined records — adding the customer name, subsidiary, and sales rep name to a transaction dataset. Filtering the dataset: applying criteria to limit the data scope — only transactions in a specific period, only invoices for a specific customer class. The pivot table: dragging fields to rows and columns, adding an aggregate measure (sum, count, average), and the multi-level row hierarchy that creates the drill-down view. Sorting and ranking: sorting a pivot by the measure value to show the top ten customers by revenue. Chart types: bar chart, line chart, pie chart, and the combination chart that overlays revenue and margin. Formatting: number formats, conditional formatting that highlights values above or below a threshold, and chart colour customisation. Multi-dataset workbooks, table views & operational dashboards (3 hours) Multi-dataset workbooks: combining a transaction dataset with a customer dataset in the same workbook — the join type (inner join, left outer join) and when each is appropriate. The table view: the flat table representation of the workbook data — when to use a table versus a pivot, adding sort and filter controls to the table view, and the column configuration that makes the table readable. Calculated fields in workbooks: adding a formula field that calculates margin percentage from revenue and cost — the formula syntax and the field type options. Key performance indicators in a workbook: the KPI metric that shows a single value (total open AR) next to a comparison value (open AR last period) with a trend indicator. Building an operational dashboard workbook: the finance AR aging workbook (open invoices by customer by aging bucket, with a summary bar chart and a KPI showing total overdue), the sales pipeline workbook (opportunities by stage with a funnel chart and a KPI showing weighted forecast), and the project delivery workbook (active projects with budget versus actual cost and the percentage completion). Publishing a workbook as a dashboard portlet: making a workbook chart or table available as a portlet on the home page. Advanced workbook design, sharing & governance (3 hours) Advanced pivot techniques: the calculated measure (a formula applied to aggregated values — gross margin percentage at the subtotal level, not just the row level), the running total, and the period-over-period comparison that shows this month versus last month versus the same month last year. Workbook performance: the configuration choices that make a large-dataset workbook responsive versus slow — dataset filters that reduce the data volume before the pivot, avoiding unnecessary joins, and the date range parameters that prevent the workbook from loading all historical data. Sharing and access control: who can view a workbook, who can edit it, how to share a workbook with a role (so every user with that role sees it on their dashboard), and how to prevent a user from accidentally breaking a shared workbook. Workbook templates: creating a template workbook that other users can copy and customise for their own analysis needs. Data governance for SuiteAnalytics: the risk of workbooks that contain sensitive data being shared too broadly, the access review for shared workbooks, and the naming and folder conventions that make the workbook library maintainable. Building the management reporting suite: the five workbooks that cover the standard management reporting needs of an African mid-market business — P&L by department, sales pipeline, AR aging, project profitability, and headcount by subsidiary.
